Quick Philly Trip: Waffles, DTF, BIGBANG

We had the great privilege (lol) of driving Chooch and his friend Ben home on Sunday after their quick Pgh visit. Chooch is tall but somehow he has so many EVEN TALLER friends, like giants, and Ben is one of them, so he got to sit behind me in the car since I’m the shortie of the group and can afford to move my seat way up.

Why am I telling you such a mundane thing, you ask? Why, it’s because it meant Chooch sat catty-corner so I got to turn around and make him uncomfortable with my manic eye contact the whole way there, haha. I took this picture after I realized that I didn’t take a single picture of him all weekend so he begrudgingly let me, not wanting to cause a scene in front of Ben I guess.

The ride was super boring BUT we did listen to BIGBANG pretty much the whole way so that was fun and also I started getting all of these Insta notifications from strangers liking my posts and it turns out they are Chooch’s mysterious Instagram friends and they were all telling him that they were doing this, and then I was getting so excited BECAUSE DOES THIS MEAN I AM COOL, and Chooch was absolutely miserable through the whole ordeal.

By the way, OBSESSED with the new BIGBANG (HOLY SHIT WE GOT NEW BIGBANG!!!):

Once we dropped Chooch and Ben off at Summit, Henry was ready to split but I wanted to eat somewhere there before we left and our only options would quickly become Wawa (I’m sorry, I’m not enamored by this joint like the rest of the east coast is, and I can’t even say it’s because I’m Team Sheetz because I am so over Sheetz these days too).

So we ended up parking around the corner and walking to this food hall thingie on UPenn’s campus (there was a new stationary store that just opened this month so had to stop in there too!). I felt guilty for not inviting Chooch so Henry texted him and his response was, “I could eat.” So he ended up meeting us there but then we walked to Top Hat instead because the other place was overrun with incoming UPenn kids. No thank you.

I liked it here! They had all kinds of waffles. Chooch and I got the Lonsa Waffle. I asked him if he thought it had meat in it (lonsa was the ingredient that we were unsure of) and he was like, “I don’t know, ask.” But I didn’t feel like asking so I just ordered it.

Then he also ordered it and as when we sat down, I said, “Well, hopefully that doesn’t have meat in it.”

“It doesn’t,” he sighed. “It’s some kind of Indian tomato paste—I googled it since you refused to ask.”

WOW, lol.

It was GOOD.

Henry got one that had SAUSAGE on it, gross. The waffle maker said, “Oh shit!” while she was making them so we were nervous. But it turned out it was because she made two with sausage and only one of the Lonsa ones, so she asked if we wanted to just take the extra sausage one and then she’d make the second Lonsa. I don’t know why I bothered to ask Henry if he wanted two because he was like FUCK YEAH BOYYYY with like, the most enthusiasm he’s ever exhibited.

But then Chooch didn’t want to wait for his waffle (it took like 20 minutes just for us to get the first three) so he flicked the sausage off of Henry’s second one and at that one and then took the second Lonsa one to-go once it was done. Wow. He made out  on that deal. Starving college kid, etc etc.

Then we said good bye and he and Henry did some weird hand slap thing?!?! WHEN DID THIS START?? It was way better than the awkward half-hug I get from him!! Now I need to concoct some kind of three-person hand-shake / group goodbye dance or something that we can all be involved in. Because I felt left out!!!!

We stopped in King of Prussia on the way home so Henry could get gas at the dreaded Wawa (I am so tired of this Wawa – I had to pee but decided to hold it because I just didn’t want to go in there at all) and I remembered that we saw a cookie place called BANG COOKIES the last time we were out that way. They were open!! I got the DTF (Down to Fetti) cookie inspired by MIKE THE SITUATION and it was so goddamn good. I moist funfetti cookie stuffed with vanilla frosting, give it to me.

Speaking of DTF, I was watching someone’s vlog from the NYC Stationery Fest (it was in Brooklyn the same weekend we were there!!!!!) and they kept talking about DTF something or other and I was like, “WHAT ARE THEY EVEN REFERRING TO AND WHAT AN UNFORTUNATE PRODUCT NAME” because to me, DTF is always “down to fuck” thanks to The Jersey Shore for adding such a gem to my already voluminous vocabulary, and Henry calmly said, “Well, that refers to a type of printing, Erin, and that was being used way before YOUR definition of DTF.”
