An October Thursday, chhh chhh chhh haaa haaa haaa edition

I’m off work today and this time I planned ahead by asking my friend Kristy if she wanted to meet up at some point and as luck would have it, she was free this morning!
We met at the new Asian bakery/cafe called Ope Fe on the Southside. I have been seeing a lot of mixed reviews for this place but you guys, croissant couches. Still, I was game when Kristy suggested it because I love Asian baked goods and this was on my radar.
Kristy writes for Pittsburgh Magazine so she was able to use this as a working coffee date and then it got even cooler because after we made the plans, she also had the opportunity to interview one of the cast members of the new Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake – Joy Suprano. I was so excited to watch Kristy work!

Some thoughts on the vibes: The first room has all of the food (it’s a “take a tray and tongs” set-up) and there is food everywhere. I didn’t know where to go first! Honestly, there were too many choices and decision fatigue came on fast and strong. I ended up just grabbing two things without any real conviction. But honestly – I’m a sweets bitch and sugar is sugar. It’s the savory stuff that leaves me with less wiggle room (none of it left me with any wiggle room left in my pants afterward though, if you know what I mean).

golden layers, perfect moments
I got a matcha cream donut and whatever that sugary toast is next to it, which was pretty good just hard to eat because the edges were really hard. I thought it was honey toast but I guess I grabbed the wrong thing because whatever that red jam-looking stuff is was not the honey of this world. I thought it was perfectly fine though–I didn’t roll my eyes back or anything but it was good. And the donut, which I brought home with me because the sugar rush of that toast and the Vietnamese latte with black sesame foam had me starting to shake, tasted exactly as I expected it to. It was decent.
It just wasn’t a very cozy place. It was definitely an influencer’s paradise though–pretty pastries and croissant walls? You know they’re lowkey highkey here for it.

DON’T WORRY I also took a picture of Kristy using that damn Movements disposable camera too.
It was so nice getting to spend a random Thursday morning with Kristy, and getting to observe her in action while she interviewed Joy, who BTW was so down-to-earth and charismatic. My Halloween Weekend plans, aside from squeezing in more haunted houses, is definitely bingeing Crystal Lake! I’m actually disappointed in myself for not having already watched it but I have TV-burnout right now because we were watching From and I was moderately into it at first but now as soon as Henry puts it on, I start playing Mahjong on my phone. I just can’t with the cringey acting. So hopefully this show will restore my faith in TV (plus, it’s A24 so come on, it has to be good). Just listening to Kristy (who is THE biggest horror fan I know) and Joy fangirl over the Jasonverse made me so inspired—the Friday the 13th franchise was a Kelly Family Favorite, and Chooch also was really into it from a young (maybe too young LOL) age and I found myself getting really emotional listening to Joy talk about the love and care that was put into the production of this series.
Oh! And Kristy gave me one of her handmade peg dolls – a pocket reaper!
